The SONY TC-880-2. A professional half-track tape deck with 10-1/2 inch reel capacity and 15 ips tape speed. Plus a long list of features and capabilities to provide unsurpassed recording excellence and versatility. Consider:
Direct Drive Servocontrol System. One capstan is an extension of the Servocontrol Motor; the other is connected to it through a belt-driven inertia flywheel. The result: Mechanically simple Closed Loop Dual Capstan Tape Drive that reduces wow and flutter to 0.02%. Essentially nonexistent.
Phase Compensator Circuit. Phase variations from the original source are a natural function of the recording process, producing varying levels of harmonic distortion. During playback, SONY's exclusive Phase Compensator Circuit adjusts for these phase variations. Result: Sound quality that's virtually identical to the original source.
Symphase Recording. Record 4-channel sound from any SQ* or FM matrix source and play it back through a 4-channel system for the effect of a live performance. The Phase Compensator Circuit, combined with SONY's Ferrite and Ferrite Heads, essentially eliminates phase differences between channels.

Peak Reading VU Meters, calibrated to NAB standards. They provide instantaneous electronic measurement of peaks up to +15 dB. And give you 3-way versatility: 1. Standard VU operation; 2. Peak Reading-display of transient peaks only; 3. Peak Hold-display and hold of transient peaks, letting you accurately measure distortion and adjust input accordingly.
Syncro-Trak. The record head doubles as a playback head for creating perfectly synchronized multitrack recordings. When adding a second track of sound, simply monitor the first track through the record head to eliminate a time delay. Professional Punch-In Record lets you go into the record mode instantly, without stopping the tape.
RecordIPlayback Attenuators. Each detent position marks a 2dB change that can be read on the VU meters.
4-Digit Minute/Second Counter, Reads actual elapsed time (at 15 ips tape speed; at 71/2 ips, multiply by 2).
4-Head Design. The TC-880-2 enables you to play back pre-recorded quarter-track tapes without changing headblock assembly.
Two Balanced and Two Unbalanced Mic Inputs.
Professional and consumer capabilities, both provided without compromise. The balanced mic inputs feature Cannon Connectors.
Plus an impressive selection of other SONY features-3-Position Equalization Selector Switch, 2-Position Bias Selector Switch, Logic Controlled Transport Functions, VariSpeed™ PitchControl, FET Preamplifier and more.
Words and pictures alone cannot present an adequate description of this outstanding machine. For that you need your ears. See your dealer for a demonstration-and let the SONY TC-880-2 speak for itself.
