This unit was built by Tascam for Ampex in the late ‘70s.
The unit is a two track, 2-channel stereo with 7½ and
15 IPS speeds. It has 3 heads but a space is reserved for an
optional 4th reproduce head. The unit’s
features a full logic transport for fast safe tape shuttle,
4 digit tape counter with memory function. It is direct drive
capstan, servo-controlled. This machine features the synchronous
reproduce mode which it makes it possible to switch the
record head of either channel to the reproduce mode for monitoring
that channel. Thus, channels recorded at different
times are in perfect synchronization.
