I am trying to figure out how to get into the TC- 580 to repair the brakes. I took all the screws off the back and it didn't move. So, before I do something that I shouldn't I better ask you kind folks how to get at the brakes.
Thanks,
Joe

Many Sony decks can be accessed by removing the top plate .
Screws in each corner. Middle. Head COVER supports etc.
Obviously it might be different for each model.
I am thinking of TC377,TC366,TC399,TC630 etc.
Then you may be able to see which screws hold it in the cabinet.
After gently lifting out the deck you may be able to see the problem better.
Hope this helps. Not familiar with the TC580.

It's hard to remember, but I will do my best. On the TC-580, 730 and 558, I believe that you take out the back screws inside the rubber feet, 2 more screws in the middle and 4 long heavy duty screws in the bottom. The bottom screws really hold it together. If this doesn't work let me know and I'll pull mine out of the closet and check it out.
